What is packrafting?

An introduction into the world of packrafting…we think you’re going to love it!

Packrafting originated as a sport to provide a means of water transportation in areas with untracked wilderness. Packrafts are suitable for use in various bodies of water including lakes, rivers, coastal and even technical whitewater. They are considered to be forgiving and accessible water craft making them suitable for beginners. Packrafting allows individuals to combine activities such as hiking, biking, wild camping, skiing, climbing and paddling, opening up a wide range of possibilities for exploration and adventure.

MRS packrafts weigh between 880g for the lightest solo and 5.95kg for the range topping Barracuda Pro tandem. Being incredibly light and compact, you can take an MRS packraft anywhere with you, in or on a standard backpack, hiking, expeditions, mountaineering, on a bike, as part of wildcamping kit to access new locations for hardcore whitewater, or even in aeroplane hand luggage on a relaxing holiday. MRS packrafts make storage at home and transportation easy without compromising on performance.

The lightweight yet durable performance of MRS packrafts is down to the high quality, advanced polyurethane coated nylon fabric (or “TPU”) used, allowing a relatively thin yet strong, light and robust material. MRS carefully select and only use the best fabrics (not all fabrics are equal!). MRS packrafts are designed to form part of your serious adventure kit, designed for serious adventure and trusted by pro-adventurers world wide.

So why would an MRS packraft suit your adventure needs above other types of adventure craft such as hard kayaks/canoes or other inflatable kayaks?

Hard kayaks or canoes are bulky, take up significant storage at home (need a garage or area to store it!) and need roof racks or a large vehicle/trailer to transport!

Inflatable kayaks still take up your car boot space and still weigh approx. 13-15kg for a solo kayak and up to around 20kg for a tandem!! They aren’t genuinely portable and still need you to park near your launch site! Unlike a hard kayak/canoe or inflatable kayak, you can take an MRS packraft wherever your adventure takes you, unleashing new adventures!
