Description
The Nitrogen is the lightest of the new MRS ultra light packraft range, taking the ultra-light concept to the extreme! This is the packraft for those who need the ultimate, lightest packraft available but doesn’t want to compromise on quality, design or packability.
In order to keep weight to a minimum, the tubes are made from 70D ripstop nylon fabric coated with TPU (polyurethane coating), and the floor uses 210D TPU. The main saving is in the tubes whilst the floor remains robust with the 210D TPU. Again, with taking weight down to the extreme, this packraft does without a seat, backrest and skeg (these can be added as options but will increase the weight – contact for details).
Given the extreme low weight at 880g and its ultra compact barely noticeable size, you can stow this along with its inflation bag (135g) in even the smallest of backpacks – you can literally take this anywhere, hiking, climbing or even long expeditions where you are counting every gram of weight but may need to cross short crossings of water or take your route downstream.
Despite its low 880g weight, this packraft has a generous maximum capacity of 110kg including paddler and gear. For larger paddlers, you can look at the MRS Minnow, still sub 2kg (white) but with a 135kg weight capacity, or the Surveyor, sub-2.5kg (white) but with a 185kg weight capacity.
This ultra light Nitrogen is not for long distances, very heady loads or speed, but it is light and compact to the extreme and allows access to waters previously thought inaccessible or unimaginable! Hiking for days in remote locations and see an incredible mountain lake? This packraft allows you to create incredible memories. Taking an expedition to a remote part of the world with only your backpack as company? This packraft gives you the option to use water as a means of travel down calm rivers or to reduce walking distances by making crossings across rivers or lakes. Or something less extreme, going on holiday or a day out and would like to take a packraft but cannot accommodate any of the rest of the MRS packraft range? This packraft gives you options, perhaps alongside your other MRS packraft or as a standalone ultra light packraft.
Due to the light weight material used, this model cannot be fitted with internal tube storage using a TiZIP – if you need that functionality, see the Surveyor ultra light packraft.
For ultra light paddles, look for the Werner Pack-Tour, a top-end paddle designed with packability and lightweight in mind without any sacrifice of ultimate performance, not out cheapest paddle, but our best paddle. Also, the Kokatat Proteus PFD is an excellent PFD (personal flotation device) which is lower in weight but high performance).
